Genuine Vintage for the Modern Woman
Whether this is your first time stopping by or you’re one of our original fans, you’ve probably noticed that we do things a little differently here at Trendy and Tipsy®. While we have a deep respect and adoration for the past, we also believe that the modern woman deserves garments that embody our current freedoms. After all, we women have worked hard to have an equal vote, better pay, and the ability to carve out our own sense of style.
At Trendy and Tipsy we torch the old rule book by giving genuine vintage textiles a contemporary twist. We hunt down the coolest dead-stock materials and recycled fabrics, meticulously reworking them into garments that personify the edgy/cool style that modern women crave.
In this article, we’ll share with you how our woman-owned business got its start and how we’re redefining vintage fashion. We invite you to sip on your favorite cocktail, learn about our vision, and start dreaming up your own ways of styling our one-of-a-kind garments.
Our Story
Trendy and Tipsy® is the brainchild of owner, designer, and all-around badass girl boss Katie Brown. Her passion for fashion and design was fueled by her late grandfather, Angelo (Cocco) Saputo, an Italian immigrant who ran a successful tailoring business in San Diego for many years. Much of Katie’s childhood was spent in Cocco’s garage workshop watching as he made custom suits. Many years later, the very first vintage pieces for Trendy and Tipsy were created in that same garage with the help of Katie’s mother and grandmother.
In 2011, while attending Dominican University, Katie started a blog called Trendy and Tipsy®, where she would share up-and-coming fashion trends mixing in her own style inspirations. For her school thesis, Katie had to make a business plan, and she decided to develop an online boutique showcasing her love for vintage styles mixed with new trends. After graduation in 2013, and with the help of her family, Katie turned that business plan into a reality launching the Trendy and Tipsy® website.
Once she had built a collection of unique vintage pieces, Katie began showcasing her garments at farmer’s markets, street fairs, and pop-up shops. She fine-tuned her designs to meet the desires of her fashion-savvy clients and business took off. By the end of 2015, she was able to open the very first brick and mortar Trendy and Tipsy® store on Mission Blvd. in her hometown of San Diego, California. To this day, all of the one-of-a-kind vintage pieces available on our website are handmade with love in San Diego, and this year, our Last Call Vintage Line was showcased at Coachella, Kaaboo, and Stagecoach.
Our Signature Vintage Style
Each of the vintage garments you find at Trendy and Tipsy are as unique as our approach. Every top and bottom are one of just one - no two pieces are exactly the same. You can rest assured you will never show up to a party wearing the same thing as someone else when you rock one of our vintage creations.
Our repurposed designs are sustainable, too! We’re putting vintage fabrics to good use and keeping them out of landfills, so you should feel as good as you look wearing these eco-conscious designs.

Vintage Tees and Tops
At Trendy and Tipsy, you’ll find vintage tops for almost any occasion. Put together a trendy casual outfit that’s perfect for sipping a latte and catching up with your bestie by pairing a zipper crop top with yoga pants or jeans. You can dress up these tops for a cute festival look by wearing them with your favorite bralette and an animal print skirt.
Add feminine flair to any ensemble with tops featuring mesh embroidery. They’ll look super cute with a high waisted skirt or pants. Planning an island vacation or a trip to sunny SoCal? (come stop by our store and say hi!) Tube tops are ideal for warm weather and shirts with a cut-out peace sign on the back can be layered over a swimsuit when you’re walking from your hotel room to the pool or strolling down the boardwalk at the beach.
Oversized band tees and Harley Davidson shirts can be worn as a dress and cinched in with a chain belt or paired with denim shorts. Get wild by pairing them with animal prints leggings and finish off your ensemble with a pair of over-the-knee boots.
Looking for something that’s sure to turn some heads? Double sided chain tank tops are our best selling style for a darn good reason. These versatile tops look sharp with bell bottoms, leather skirts, jeans, mini skirts, and pretty much any bottoms to feel like rocking. Let them hang loose for a laid-back look or tie them up in a knot in the front, side, or back for more fitted styling. Get creative and have fun piecing together a vintage look that reflects your unique personality!
Vintage Flannels
Who doesn’t love a nice soft vintage flannel when the temperature starts to drop? Our unique flannels might use vintage fabrics, but they’re definitely not like the shirts your Mom used to wear. Whimsical flannels featuring floral or lace back panels add a serious wow factor to this wardrobe classic. Our intentionally oversized designs allow you to style them in many different ways. Wear them open as a lightweight jacket with stretchy leggings and a tank top, or tie them up on one side, and wear them as a top with a pair of bell bottoms.
Go for an edgy look that’s still super comfy with our acid wash styles or band flannels. Choose from designs featuring iconic artists including Pink Floyd, Toby Keith, Jimi Hendrix, and many more. They’ll look chic with leather skirts or distressed denim.
Vintage Outerwear
In late fall, when the weather gets really chilly, layer up for a night on the town or a casual hangout with the crew in one of our vintage jackets. We offer a range of styles that’ll pair with anything from a little black dress to your casual tees and jeans. Add some shimmer to your ensemble on a date night tryst with beaded sequin jackets or get grungy for an underground concert with acid wash designs.
Make a statement with a camo, chambray, or denim jacket seamlessly designed with vintage band graphics featuring artists such as Metallica, Johnny Cash, Biggie, and more. Our band garments are made with genuine vintage pieces, so you’ll know you’re getting the real thing and not replicas. Add eye-catching detail to your look with denim jackets featuring fringe accents, lace-up backs, mesh panels, or floral embroidery.
Vintage Bottoms
You can’t go wrong with a great pair of denim, and we’ve got vintage denim bottoms featuring eye-catching details such as fringe accents or embroidered flowers, as well as plain styles. Our vintage bottoms look super cute with crop tops, tie tops, vintage tees, or cozy sweaters, so you can wear them this fall and throughout the whole year.
Go for an edgy look by pairing high waisted ripped denim shorts with a crop top or bodysuit. Repurposed denim skirts will look sassy with cowgirl boots and a graphic tee. Love the camouflage print trend? Camo pants or a skirt will stand out when you wear them with combat boots and a solid colored top.
